Jack started baseball this spring. This is his first group activity and he hasn't been in anything since he was barely 3 years old and did gymnastics. His team is made up of St. Henry Preschoolers-most are from the MWF class though-so he is shy around the kids still (he goes t/th). Yesterday they played two 30 min games (I think they will be one hour and only one game in the future). It was freezing cold and raining but he made it through. He looks a little oompa loompa in his costume because he had MANY layers of clothing on. But it helped everything stay up (they got uniforms the day of the game) and kept him warm-so it all worked out. He did really great the first game but fizzled for the second. They do 5 coach thrown baseball pitches and then if the kids can't hit it they get the "t" out for them. I'm not sure if the coaches keep score or not, but even if a kid gets out (which is rare because no one really knows where to throw the ball or what to do) they still let the kid stay on base and run home. I really like how they are making it fun and teaching them slowly. Jack didn't need the "t" either time he was up to bat and only a few kids did-which amazed me. Most weren't sure where to run or when since we had only had one practice (Fridays was rained out). He had fun and it's so cute to see them out there. I have a ton of pictures-so here goes.
That is Jack (#3-Mets orange shirt) to the far right-he is running for the ball)
Here he is up to bat
He hit it, you can see the ball by the coaches foot (there were about 5 kids standing near 1st base)
Here he is running to 1st base-notice not a single kid is there-they ALL went running for the ball....LOL
running to 2nd base
Not quite sure what to do once he is on 2nd base-he does make it to 3rd but no picture-he was running away from the camera and got caught in a swarm of kids going for the ball
Running to home base
He is on home base and looking like he is going to run around again-they got him to the dug out:)
Daddy and Sissy (that's what we call her 80% of the time-weird I don't think I posted that here) watching the game
Snack time-Amelia was jealous he got chips and capri sun and she got nothing
Game #2-there was a lot of Jack sitting or bending over to pick up dirt/rocks
He was ready some of the time-just in case the ball came near him
And lastly some random kid comes walking on the field in the middle of the game. YOu can see the coach looking like "what the ???" but no one tells him to leave and the most amazing part is his parent NEVER came running over to get him. If my kid walking into a game I wouldn't let him just wander around until he got bored.
It was super cute and I think it will be fun. I am going to have to do a lot of alterations on his outfit since I doubt it will be cold enough for 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants the whole season:)
